When learning his son had died on a mission – ordered by the General – an Engineer sneaks into the General’s bunker at night, placing a knife to the General’s neck to keep him quiet. After the General complies with keeping quiet, the Engineer begins his confrontation.
He berates the General on how selfish his acts have been, sending soldiers to their death without risking his own life. The General protests, making excuses about it being out of his control.
The Engineer pulls out a broken watch and tag to show the General; the watch belonged to his recently deceased son.
To appease the Engineer, the General attempts to remove culpability and make offers of money and dismissal, but the Engineer refuses. After finishing his speech about how pointless and absurd this war is and how many lives have been affected, the General expresses he needs some time to think it over. The Engineer reluctantly agrees and takes the knife, walking towards the bunker exit.
However, just as he is leaving, the General makes a snide and arrogant remark. The Engineer turns back around and cuts the General’s throat, leaving him on in a pool of blood on his desk.
